Reviewed listing: NASDAQ:AMSC · Analysis dated Oct 15, 2026
It has not been confirmed whether the basis of this analysis still holds today. Read it as a dated earlier assessment; it does not establish a current buying opportunity.
How does the company make money?
AMSC supplies technology to control and stabilize power grids, as well as transformers and electrical controls for wind turbines. It also provides protection and power supply solutions for naval vessels.
What supports the business?
New orders of more than 130 million USD and an order backlog intended to cover twelve months of more than 300 million USD support the business. In addition, a positive cash surplus remained after capital expenditures in the latest quarter.
What could improve?
If AMSC fulfills its existing orders with better profit margins, earnings power could improve. This requires the announced improvement and the integration of Brazilian transformer manufacturer Comtrafo to succeed economically.
How is the stock price assessed?
This assessment refers to the analysis and its quoted price shown here. It is not a live quote or a personal recommendation to buy.
25.65 USD appear expensive given weak current earnings power. The high annual profit is not a reliable benchmark for an attractive share price because of a large one-time tax benefit.
What is the main risk?
Significantly less ongoing operating profit remained from the higher revenue. Reported profit was sharply boosted by a lower valuation of potential purchase-price earnouts, not by correspondingly stronger sales.
What is the overall assessment?
AMSC has documented demand and a solid liquidity buffer. At 25.65 USD, however, the relationship between price and current earnings power is not yet convincing: special items obscure the recent margin weakness. Watch rather than classify it as an opportunity.
